Western Australian Portuguese Citizen of the Year 2024
Cátia Malaquias OAM was named Western Australian Portuguese Citizen of the Year 2024 at the annual awards celebrating the contributions of Western Australians of Portuguese heritage.
“Belonging is one of our most fundamental human needs. It flourishes where human diversity is valued, human rights and equal dignity are respected, and everyone can participate and contribute. Inclusion requires us to create those conditions by challenging the attitudes, structures and barriers that exclude some people. One of our greatest responsibilities is to foster these values in children so they grow up expecting a world in which everyone has an equal place.”
